We fell in love with this wine when we first tasted it in April 2009. This is an unusual yet intensely flavored wine blend of Rhone varietals. It is a blend of 1/3rd Counoise (pronounced koon-WAHZ), 1/3rd Syrah and 1/3rd Viognier. It has the nose of the Viognier, the taste of the Counoise and the pepper finish of a Syrah. This intense wine has an alcohol content of 15.3% yet due to the 1/3 Viognier it is incredibly smooth.
Aptly named “33 1/3″ Morrison lane sells this wine for $33.33 and it will be featured on Northwest Wine Quest in June 2009. Tonight I paired it with a Rib-eye steak that I slightly seasoned with “Maurer’s Essence of the Southwest “ spicy rub and grilled to medium rare. The spicy yet pepper richness of the beef preparation met the richness of this unique varietal blend. I added a nice green salad with feta cheese, fresh tomatoes and a blend of fig balsamic vinegar with Olive Oil. An incredible/tasty match.
